Beaches around the world

It's winter now and there is nothing more warming than thinking about a sunny beach.
So my first recommendation from SeeBeforeYouDie.Net is all our places tagged with 'Beach'.
A list of many amazing places around the globe, with white (and yellow and brown) sand, blue water and warm sun.

The photo above is from Vila Las Brujas, Cuba. It looks like heaven and almost unreal for me but there are places like this!!!

Enjoy.

Tags Tags Tags

OK, first real news.
We been thinking about how to make the site more, hummm... associative - to let visitors to jump around the places easily, community facing and Web 4.0 (Even newer from Web 3.0 which is replacing the 'old' Web 2.0 (-;)
So tags seems like a nice idea for a site like this. We had the concept of keyword, that we asked our users to add to each place but it was more for search engines and we are not building a site for them, aren't we?

So we replaced the Keywords with Tags and we are showing the tags on each place page as you can see on this page of Green Mountain in Queensland, Australia. In addition to adding tags while adding new places, the users have the option to add tags to existing places as well.
At the homepage of SeeBeforeYouDie.Net we are showing (the so Web 2.0) tags cloud, with the top 20 tags in the site and you can jump from there to the All Tags page, with all the tags in the site (with more than one reference).

Recap - The last few months

The site went live on March-2006. After weeks (or maybe it was months?) of work, we had it online and open to everybody (there was a short close BETA before).

What is it all about?
The site is a private project that tries to build a photo index of must see places all around the world.
All the information on the site will come from the users and there will be no moderators. The users will decide which places are must and which are a waste of time, by adding a score to the places and by posting comments.

Some statistics:
  • We have more than 400 places in the site and it's growing by about 5 new places every day.
  • More than 1000 photos.
  • This month we are going to pass the 800,000 page views (1M celebration next month, I hope).
  • Follow this to get more news about us.

What am I doing here?

Hi,

My name is Boaz and I'm part of the team running SeeBeforeYouDie.net

See Before You Die is an open community website (I'll try to talk about the open community idea in the future) where users can post their idea of 'Places you must see... Before you die'.
We are not editing the content (unless it irrelevant or offensive) and we know that some of the places can't get into the 'must see' category but this is why we added to the site the ranking and comments mechanism.
You don't have to agree with other users about their must see places, you are welcome to choose your own rank and add comments to the place record.

In this blog I'll try to post some updates regarding the site. New features, new and interesting places that I think (and this is only me talking here) are must see and more.

Feel free to post comments about this blog and about the site in general and of course, come and take part and add your must see places to the site.
